DURRES is one of the most ancient and most important cities of the country both for its population and economic potential. It was known in antiquity with the Illyrian names Epidamnos and Dyrrhachion (Dyrrhachium in Latin). The city is situated on the Eastern shores of the Adriatic sea. Due to its natural position, Durres has witnessed its growth and development and has become the biggest sea-port of Albania.
The long-stretched beach of Durres is among the largest ones in the Adriatic coastal-line. The fine and yellow sands, the warm sea waters and healthy climate are well known by the tourists, who pass their vacations in Albania.
